spring valley house, ahmedabad

The house is located in a large private plot. The siting of the house has been done with the intention to create a larger garden towards the west and a smaller one towards the east. The living-dining spaces at the ground floor, with clear full height openings, and a light court in-between, connect the two gardens.
The house is experienced as a flow of interconnected volumes between two levels, with a layer of verandahs and balconies. This offers the opportunity to extend individual spaces towards the gardens and provides them protection during harsh summers. This layer is made with dressed stone masonry as it better withstands prolonged weathering and has its own natural beauty with the passage of seasons.
The choice of stone also guides the development of the overall architectural character and expression, along with form finished concrete and plastered surfaces. Requirements of a gym and games room were accommodated as an additional pavilion, made with a steel structure and glass shutters, extending towards the larger garden.
